The Work. My Process.

When it comes to taking photos, I try to compose images with the elements I’m presented with as they are with as little interference from me as possible. When I first fell in love with photography, I would create sets with carefully placed lighting with just the right colors, props, concoctions, and story. I enjoyed that process but was eventually encouraged to try to emulate street photographers like Robert Frank and William Eggleston, and fell in love with the approach. It’s a very fun challenge to capture or tell a story with only a spontaneous moment to do it in. It’s not easy to create a great composition in the blink of an eye. What’s more,  if I miss it then that opportunity may never present itself again. In this way, this approach is also a good exercise in letting go.
